Concealed Carry Tip | Don’t Bury Your Grip

When I started carrying, I used a bellyband exclusively because I hadn’t found my soulmate Kydex holster yet.

It was a $20 piece of elastic with a holster, I mean pocket, that let me tuck my whole ass firearm in there. Grip and all!

I mean, there was not an ounce of printing, and I thought I was onto something.

Did I mention I wasn’t practicing drawing or dry fire at this time?

Oh, no? Well, that’s probably an important part of this story.

In the top two photos you can see how I’ve buried the grip and I can’t get to it.

In the bottom two photos you can see I left some room to breathe and can easily get my fingers around the grip.

I realized, pretty quickly, thank god, there was a snowball's chance in hell of me getting a grip, let alone drawing without fumbling around and probably dropping the thing.

Lesson of the day?

Don’t be like me five years ago.

Give your grip some room to breathe.

Can you get your hand on there? Is there room to bring your fingers around?

Cant your holster a bit and practice drawing that way.

I think this is an easy mistake to make with bellybands, but it happens with Kydex too.

PS: you’re probably not “printing” as much as you think you are.
