1 Exercise To Kick The 2020 Hangover

I accidentally took a month off of writing newsletters and by accidentally, I mean that I just felt I was out of words to say in 2020.

To be honest, I still kind of feel that way.

I’ve read a lot of instagram posts from people who are also feeling a 2020 hangover and that description couldn’t feel more accurate.

This morning I watched a video from Benjamin Hardy and it resonated so much that I have to pass it on to you.

The video starts with Benjamin saying:

“How you choose to frame any experience is your choice.”

Oooof.

Well, geez, when you put it the way!

He goes on to say that your past is just a story and you get to CHOOSE your meaning of 2020. There’s nothing objective that happened in 2020; there’s just the subjective meaning you gave to the year.

Last year I discovered Benjamin and his work made a big impact on me. Particularly his journaling prompts and especially the one I’m going to share with you in a second.

I did this exercise for several months last year, before my brain kind of shut down, and it was extremely valuable to my mindset and my productivity.

Ready?

Instead of measuring 2020 against some ideal that doesn’t exist, what if you measured it against where you were before (2019)?

When you do this, it’s easier to appreciate what you have right now.

Grab your journal or a piece of paper or open the notes app on your phone and do this:

Write down all the things that have changed in your life since the beginning of 2020.

I did this (and intend to do it monthly like I was doing) and I’m telling you, you’re going to be surprised at everything you accomplished last year!

Here’s the video from Benjamin Hardy with a full explanation:

Do this exercise tonight and I bet your perspective on 2020 will change.
